UJC/Federations Target More Disaster Aid, Eye Long-Term Needs, as Fundraising Tops $21.5M
A United Jewish Communities disaster relief committee is earmarking nearly $2.1 million in new aid for Jewish and non-Jewish communities across the GulfCoast and nearby states still reeling from the impact of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and assessing further long-term needs. *Gift Cards Needed: A synagogue community in the New Orleans suburbs has requested gift cards for Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Lowe’s, in small denominations ($20-25), to be given to community members as they begin the process of rebuilding homes and lives affected by Hurricane Katrina. Gift cards can be dropped off or mailed to Jewish Volunteer Connection, 1515 Reisterstown Road, Baltimore, MD 21208. For more information, contact 410-843-7490, volunteer@associated.org.

Non-perishable Collection Drive Over
Due to the overwhelming amount of items collected to this point for victims of Hurricane Katrina, the JCC donation sites will no longer be able to collect further items. Thank you for your generosity.
The Red Cross volunteers have requested the following items:
Adult and children tooth brushes Toothpaste Baby formula Baby food Paper products Bar Soap Women's products Bottled water Non-perishable food items—not canned food (i.e. energy bars, etc.)

Volunteers needed to sort and box food that will be sent to victims of Hurricane Katrina. Volunteers must be 12 years of age and wear closed toe shoes. Daytime, evening and weekend shifts are available.

Looking for volunteers to send to the states impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Must be willing to go for 3 weeks and live and work in hardship conditions. Volunteers must attend a one day training in Baltimore before being sent to the region.
